Well.. not exactly the wizard, but a colorful magical world nonetheless. I’m talking about Gamescom in Cologne of course. Tomorrow we’ll be sitting on a flight down to Germany, home of the best beer, sausages and cars in the world.

Speaking of great things… if you are representing a publisher and you are still wearing socks, then you should try to run into us at Gamescom. We still have a few time slots towards the end of the week open.

How to accomplish said running-into-us, you ask?

In the business of knocking socks off, one is rarely afforded any downtime. Especially with Gamescom coming up faster than the swedish sun during summertime.

Simon and I just arrived back in Stockholm from a trip down to Frankfurt where we visited Crytek in their offices. We had an intense two days there. The team at Crytek were amazing and left us with a wealth of information and hints on how to get the last bit of sock-knocking power out of their technology.

Unfortunately we were so busy absorbing information  we neglected to take pictures of their building or office entrance.. instead, here’s how I always imagined the Crytek offices, after playing FarCry and Crysis:

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN August 2, 2010– Founded by former employees of GRIN, video game developer Whiteout today announces their existence to the world. Formed out of the studio that created titles such as Bionic Commando, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Wanted: Weapons of Fate and Terminator Salvation, Whiteout sets off with a wealth of experience in creating both large scale titles as well as critically acclaimed downloadable games.

Much like the Swedish winter, Whiteout’s goal is to entice gamers to warm up next to their consoles. “We’ve got some very exciting concepts under development,” said Joel Fagerlund, one of the co-founders of Whiteout.

“We are currently working on a bigger project in CryENGINE 3, and thanks to the excellent technology and support from Crytek, we have been able to carefully handcraft a playable prototype that will knock your socks off.”

While they are currently focused on this project, many of their concepts are for digital platforms. “At GRIN, we saw the community’s extraordinary response to Bionic Commando: Rearmed.” continues Fagerlund. “Couple that with the fact that new releases such as Limbo and Joe Danger have been so well received, we know that the digital marketplace is vibrant and thriving.”

Whiteout hopes to share more information with potential partners around Gamescom, held later this year.
